Kagoshima Wagyu Private Room Dinner ——Gyudo Hanare: The Farm-to-Table Experience You Won't Find Anywhere Else

Gyudo Hanare (牛道 はなれ) / 4–5 min walk from Tenmonkan-dori Tram Stop
Full Private Rooms / Farm-Direct Satsuma Fukunaga Wagyu / Grill Attendant Service

You're visiting Kagoshima and you want the real thing. Not just "wagyu" on a menu — the wagyu with a story, a pedigree, a reason to remember.

Gyudo Hanare is a private-room yakiniku restaurant in Kagoshima's Tenmonkan district, serving Satsuma Fukunaga Wagyu — a farm-direct black wagyu raised by Fukunaga Farm in Satsuma-cho, Kagoshima. National championship winner. Melting fat at just 13°C. A private room where it's just your table, your conversation, and the finest beef in Kyushu.

This guide covers everything you need to know before you book.

What Makes Gyudo Hanare Different

1. Satsuma Fukunaga Wagyu — Farm-to-Table, Directly from Kagoshima

Most wagyu restaurants purchase their beef from wholesalers. Gyudo Hanare is different. The beef comes directly from Fukunaga Farm (福永畜産), a family-owned operation in Satsuma-cho, Kagoshima — the same company that owns and runs this restaurant.

From breeding and raising the cattle to processing, distribution, and serving — every step is managed in-house. That means complete traceability, freshness that can't be faked, and a story you can actually tell at the table.

13°C Fat Melting Point Lower than body temperature.
Melts the moment it touches your tongue.
62% MUFA Content Oleic acid-rich fat.
Light on the stomach, rich in flavor.
9 National Awards Grand Champion ×4.
Verified quality by independent judges.

A fat melting point of 13°C means the marbling dissolves at temperatures well below body heat. The moment this beef touches your tongue, it simply disappears into richness. No heaviness. No greasiness. Just flavor.

2. National Championship Pedigree — Proof You Can Taste

Anyone can claim their beef is "premium." Fukunaga Farm has the receipts.

Award History (Selected)

  • 2013National Beef Carcass Competition — Honorary Prize (Highest Award)
  • 2018National Beef Carcass Competition — Excellence Award
  • 2019National Beef Business Carcass Competition — Grand Champion
  • 2023National Beef Business Carcass Competition — Grand Champion
  • 2025National Beef Business Carcass Competition — Grand Champion

These competitions bring together Japan's finest branded cattle. Winning once is remarkable. Winning four Grand Championships across different years speaks to something consistent — a farm that knows exactly what it's doing, year after year.

3. Full Private Rooms — Your Table, Your World

Every dining room at Gyudo Hanare is a completely enclosed private room — floor-to-ceiling walls and a door that closes. No shared tables, no other guests in your space, no background noise bleeding in from a neighboring party.

Private rooms are available for 2 to 20 guests. Whether you're dining as a couple on a special evening or hosting a group dinner, there's a room sized for your occasion.

4. Grill Attendant Service — Your Beef, Perfectly Handled

Yakiniku literally means "grilled meat" — and the grilling matters as much as the beef itself. At Gyudo Hanare, a dedicated grill attendant will handle your table. They know the optimal cooking time for each cut, the exact moment to flip, and the right level of heat for each piece. You simply eat and enjoy the conversation.

The Space — Taisho-Roman Japanese Modern

The interior of Gyudo Hanare draws from Taisho-era Japanese aesthetics — warm timber, soft indirect lighting, and a refined stillness that feels both timeless and welcoming. It's not a flashy restaurant. It's the kind of place where the surroundings disappear and the conversation takes over.

The lighting is warm. The rooms are quiet. Every detail is designed to make a special meal feel exactly like one.

"We came for our last dinner in Kagoshima. The private room, the attendant grilling our beef, the marbling that just dissolved — it was the best meal of our Japan trip. We're already talking about coming back."

— Couple from Australia, visiting Kagoshima

"I had no idea there was wagyu with this kind of story behind it. The farm, the national awards — hearing about it made the beef taste even better. A meal I won't forget."

— Solo traveller from the UK
